Actinopterygian node F: Presence of dermopterotic element.
The amblypterid fish are known from the Carboniferous and Permian of various sites. The characteristic skull bone arrangement of amblypterids is the overlapping of the dermopterotic by the dermosphenotic, above the eye socket.
