Salmoniformes

Gaudryella, a Cretaceous basal euteleost belonging to the salmoniformes.

Neopterygian node R (defining node of the NEOGNATHI): Anterior vertebraea articulate with both exoccipital and basioccipital.

The salmoniformes includes salmon, smelts and trout. Although Gaudryella, above, may be a salmoniform from the Mid-Cretaceous, true salmon only appeared in the Tertiary.
