Dendrobranchiata

Diagnosis

This is an unusual group of decapods as the eggs are not carried on the pleopods of the female, but hatch as nauplii. Although there is little in their carapace to help identify them phylogenetically, dendrobranchiates have undifferentiated chelate pereiopods 1, 2 and 3.

Origin

This is the oldest infraorder, arising at the Permo-Triassic boundary, approximately 250 million years ago.
