Clearly related to the Orthoptera, the Order Mantodea is represented by the praying mantis. But they have evolved entirely as predators. The front "raptorial forelegs" are present in all species, and are used effectively in hunting.
The oldest known mantodean is from the Oligocene, but it is speculated that the group extended further into the Mesozoic or even in the Permian.
