Examples of modern forms include Kangaroos from Australia where the young develop within a pouch and Opossoms from South America.

Evidence of the first marsupial Kokopellia (Cretaceous) has been found in Utah USA. Fossil evidence is fragmentary consisting of teeth and jaw fragments.

There are many theories of the origin of marsupials but evidence from Utah would suggest a North American point of origin.
