Order Scorpiones
Morphology
- Body is divided into two main
segments, the cephalothorax and opisthosoma.
- The cephalothorax comprises
a prosoma consisting of eyes, chelicera (mouth-parts) pedipalps
and a carapace
- The opisthosoma consistis
of the mesosoma and metasoma
- The mesosoma consists of lungs,
digestive tract and reproductive organs and 4 pairs of walking
legs, while the metasoma forms the tail comprising 5 segments,
the last containing the anus and telson (sting).
- The telson consists of the
vesicle which holds a pair of venom glands and the hypodermic
aculeus, (the barb used for venom injection)
