Superfamily Cyclopygacea
Previously, only the family Cyclopygidae was included in this group but Fortey (1981) and Fortey and Chatterton (1988) also included the families Taihungshaniidae and Nileidae. Whittington (2003) however disputed whether the latter should be included
in the superfamily. The superfamily includes both members that lived on
the sea floor and ones that swum through the water column (see life habits). The
latter include the cyclopygidae, which have distinctive inflated eyes
which allowed them to see up and down as well as across relative to
their body.
