The Piciformes include the woodpeckers and close relatives. There are roughly 400 species of Piciform. Most have zygodactyl feet (2 toes pointing forwards, 2 toes pointing backwards). The majority are insectivorous (although toucans eat fruit, and honeyguides eat beeswax). All Piciformes nest in cavites.
