Figure 2. A Charophyte (a freshwater green algae) indicative of freshwater conditions. This transverse thin section shows a vegetative stem of one of the benthic plants they form. The characterisitc calcified central tube surrounded by cortical tubes is clearly visible. The photograph also shows the very fine grained micritic limestone.
